RARITY SCALE

There is a rarity scale factor in collecting Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by Playmates Toys. The rarity can vary based on how many collectibles are available for sale at any given time. The rarity scale in the price guide is factored on the number of sealed toys available, that are “like new” in the original packaging.

· COMMON - 100 or more known to exist. Most production-made figures and playsets are considered common.

· RARE - 100 or less known to exist. Production figures and playsets can be considered rare if the amount available are sealed when typically found loose.

· VERY RARE - 50 or less known to exist. Production figures and playsets can be considered Very Rare if the amount available are sealed or a weapon color is a chase variant.

· ULTRA RARE - 25 or less known to exist. Some Production Variants and Sealed Packaging are considered Ultra Rare with some collectibles that are typically found loose.

· SCARCE - 5 or less known to exist. Wax Sculptures, Hard Copies, Test Shots, Production Error Toys, and Employee-Owned Variants are considered Scarce.

· UNRELEASED – Toys never made into production but are mentioned in catalogs or other sources.

PRICE GUIDE COLUMNS

PRICE GUIDE COLUMNS

The price guide contains 5 different categories:

· LOOSE (INCOMPLETE) - A simple loose figure or toy, by itself, with missing accessories or weapons is considered "INCOMPETE". Any damage observed will be less value.

· COMPLETE - An opened loose figure or toy, with all accessories or weapons, is considered "COMPETE". The box or packaging will add value to a "COMPLETE" collectible. Any damage observed will be less value.

· SEALED - A sealed, pristine and perfect carded figure or boxed toy, "Like New" is considered "SEALED" and ungraded. Any damage observed will be less value.

· GRADED 80 - A figure or boxed toy graded by a Third-Party Grading Company at 80, "GRADED 80". Graded 80 toys are typically double the value of a sealed toy.

· GRADED 85 - A figure or boxed toy graded by a Third-Party Grading Company at 85, "GRADED 85". Graded 85 toys are rare, so expect values to be 250% - 300% higher when compared to the same ungraded sealed toy.

GRADED COLLECTIBLES

The price guide has a column for "GRADED 80" and “GRADED 85”. Few collectibles are graded above 80. The average "High-Grade" is an 85, just as a 9.8 is considered the gold standard for a high-grade comic book. As with comic books, a 9.9 or a 10.0 is considered extremely rare and unlikely. With toy grading, an 85 or 90 with average shelf life would be considered just as rare. Toys graded at 85 or 90 can obtain 250% to 300% more value compared to the same ungraded sealed toy.

DAMAGE VS VALUE

KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE

Listings should be accurate when selling collectibles. Always research the item before deciding to sell. In order to be as accurate as possible, look for the key details:

    · Year of toy

    · Name of toy

    · Original or Rerelease

    · Color of weapons and accessories

    · Rarity

    · Damages

    · Purchase Price

PURCHASE PRICE

All of these details depend greatly on the profit of sales. Rarity is a wildcard, and value goes up when there is high demand with low quantities available for sale. Purchase price can dictate how much profit a seller can earn. Always "buy low" and "sell high". If a seller needs money at any cost, the purchase price starts to have less meaning. Inflation and the current cost of living can impact profit from your initial purchase price.

DAMAGE

Damage is a huge factor when determining value. If there is damage observed, there is less value. Do not expect a premium price for a collectible with defects and damaged packaging.
